['bəːkəts], Gunnar, amerikanischer Architekt lettischer Herkunft, * Riga 17. 1. 1925; lebt seit 1949 in den USA. Birkerts arbeitete zunächst mit Eero Saarinen und Yamasaki Minoru zusammen, bevor er 1959 ein eigenes Büro in Birmingham (Michigan) eröffnete. Er entwarf v. a. Bürobauten, Schulen, Colleges und Museen (u. a. in Detroit, Minneapolis, Houston und New York), bei denen die Struktur der Konstruktion sichtbar bleibt.
